A 74-year-old man in Hicksville was beaten Tuesday morning and his accused attacker taken into custody on several charges, Nassau police said.
The confrontation outside 350 S. Broadway, Hicksville, began a few blocks away shortly before 10 a.m., police said, when Patrick Hayden, 23, of 38 Celestial Lane, Levittown, stopped his 2001 Ford Taurus in front of Robert Chevrolet, 236 S. Broadway, Hicksville. Police said Hayden parked his car and then climbed into a 2013 Dodge pickup that was idling outside the dealership.
He drove a few blocks and stopped near the victim, got out and punched, kicked and knocked down the man, who was taken to a hospital with cuts and bruises, police said.
Police said Hayden then drove to 67 Bloomingdale Road, went into the Ultimate Gym there and turned in the wallet of the pickup's owner.
The gym called the pickup's owner, who notified police. Officers found Hayden walking on Jerusalem Avenue nearby and arrested him. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation, police said. The pickup was several blocks away.
Hayden faces charges including second-degree assault, second-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree grand larceny. Police said they expected him to be arraigned when medically practical.
