Pedestrian critical after hit by car in Uniondale

A 62-year-old man had a serious head injury after being struck by a car as he crossed the street late Thursday in Uniondale, Nassau County police said.

The man, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, was hit at about 10:20 p.m. as he walked across the street in the 600 block of Park Avenue, police said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police said.

The car involved in the accident was a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu, on which inspections for brake and safety were performed at the scene, according to police.

Police also said no criminality is suspected regarding the driver, a man, 25.
