Pedestrian is critical after being hit in Bohemia

A Virginia man was in critical condition after being struck by a car while attempting to cross Veterans Memorial Highway in Bohemia Sunday, Suffolk County police said.

John Luke Curry, 59, of Arlington, Va., was struck by a 2004 Honda Civic driven by Cihangir Alpsoy, 47, of Hicksville, as he attempted to cross the road at Artic Avenue at about 6:40 p.m., police said.

Police said Curry was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue. Alpsoy was not injured in the crash, police said.

No charges were filed.

Police said the car was impounded for a safety check and said the investigation is continuing on Monday.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Fifth Squad detectives at 631-854-8552.
