Pedestrian killed after van rear-ended

A Lindenhurst man was killed crossing Fulton Street in Farmingdale Thursday afternoon after a box truck hit a van that had stopped to let him cross - and pushed the van into him, police said.

Nassau County police said Warren Moore, 54, of Lindenhurst, was killed as a result of the crash, which occurred at 4:37 p.m. Police said Moore was walking northbound across the eastbound lanes when a Ford van traveling in the left-hand lane saw him and stopped to allow Moore to cross the street.

But, police said, that van was struck in the rear by a Mitsubishi box truck - and the force of that collision pushed the stopped van into Moore. Police said Moore suffered head trauma when he was hit by the van and was transported to Nassau University Medical Center, where he died at 6:27 p.m.

The truck and van were both impounded, police said.

No summonses were issued. The investigation is ongoing.
