Pizza delivery man assaulted in Westbury, police say

Nassau County police are investigating an attempted robbery in Westbury early Sunday morning during which a Papa John's pizza delivery man was assaulted.

Police said the incident occurred at 12:27 a.m. after the victim, identified only as a 23-year-old male, attempted to make a delivery to an Arlington Street residence and got no answer at the door. He was approached from behind by a male who began hitting him in the head with a metal object.

The victim fell to the ground and screamed for help. The assailant, accompanied by another male, fled on foot toward Grand Boulevard without any proceeds.

The victim with bruising on his head was taken to a hospital for treatment. He described his assailant as being between 17 and 18 years of age.

Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will be kept confidential.
