Police: Brooklyn man crashes stolen car in Lawrence

Nassau County police have arrested a Brooklyn man who allegedly crashed a stolen car into a backyard in Lawrence on Tuesday morning and then tried to hide from police.

Fourth Squad detectives said Anthony P. Wilson, 22, of 728 E. 43rd St., was recklessly driving a 1993 red Honda Civic with Pennsylvania registration north on Route 878 in Lawrence at about 10:55 a.m.

Wilson crashed the vehicle - reported as stolen from New York City - into the backyard of a house on Dogwood Lane, police said, then fled on foot.

Police said they found Wilson hiding under bushes on Marbridge Road. When police tried to take him into custody, they said he resisted and fought back. No injuries were reported.

Wilson is charged with possession of stolen property, possession of burglar tools, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and four vehicle and traffic violations.

He was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
