Police said the fake cop flashed the headlights on his sport utility vehicle "repeatedly" to pull over a driver -- then stole his wallet.
The incident occurred on northbound Central Avenue at about 10 p.m., police said.
Police identified the victim as a 64-year-old man, who said that after being pulled over by the fake cop, he was told to hand over his identification, registration and insurance papers -- and to throw his keys onto the roof of his car.
The victim told police the fake officer then took his wallet and fled in the SUV.
It was not immediately clear if the fake officer produced a badge or just told the victim he was a policeman. A description of the SUV also was not immediately available Monday.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
