An employee of an assisted living facility in East Meadow faces arraignment Tuesday on charges that she stole money from the pocketbook of a resident, Nassau County police said.

Adassa Clark, 61, of 27 Ann St., Hempstead, was charged with endangering an incompetent person and petty larceny and was expected to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.

Police said Clark, a med tech, entered the room of a 90-year-old female resident at the Bristal Assisted Living facility on Aug. 3 to administer medicine. While there, she removed money from the woman's pocketbook, but police did not say how much was taken.

Clark was arrested about 3:45 p.m. Monday in East Meadow, police said.

Detectives ask anyone who might have been similarly victimized to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS (8477).

The facility released a statement saying it was cooperating with police.

"We are entrusted with protecting the quality of life of our clients so if anyone violates that trust we are not only appalled but angry," the statement said. "The exemplary commitment of our employees to our residents is self-evident every day and it is unfortunate were this aberrant behavior to harm that reputation in any way."
