Hicksville teen arrested in June school burglary, cops say
A 16-year-old from Hicksville surrendered to Nassau County police Thursday after detectives linked him to a fingerprint recovered from a June burglary scene in Hicksville.
Police said Nicholas Donnelly, of 50 Bamboo Lane, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief. He was arraigned Thursday and released and transferred to the court's adolescent diversion program, which can offer drug and alcohol treatment and set educational and community work requirements.
His attorney John Carman, of Garden City, said the program is "more nurturing than punishment," an atmosphere geared toward young people who may have made mistakes.
Police said that Second Squad detectives matched Donnelly to a latent fingerprint recovered from a June 18 burglary at the Old Country Road School on Rhodes Lane.
Carman said his client was accused of "mischief" at the school, such as breaking computers.
Donnelly surrendered at the Second Precinct on Thursday, according to police.
