Police: Oceanside woman, 89, accidentally runs over, kills friend, 90

A 90-year-old Oceanside woman was killed Wednesday when she was run over by a car driven by her friend.

June Guerin was at the home of her friend, 89, on Windsor Parkway when, Nassau County police said, she tried to help direct the unnamed woman in moving a car out of the driveway. But, police said, the friend accidentally placed her 1999 Ford sedan in reverse -- striking Guerin and running her over, before coming to rest across the street.

The accident occurred at about 2:35 p.m., police said.

Police said Guerin was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver also was taken to a hospital for observation and evaluation, police said.

An earlier story incorrectly identified Guerin as the driver of the Ford. Police also misspelled Guerin's last name.

Police said the Ford passed brake and safety tests conducted at the scene and that the incident has been ruled accidental. No charges were filed.
