Police: One dead in Hempstead double stabbing

Two people were found stabbed, one fatally, Sunday morning on a street in Hempstead, police said.

Nassau County police reported that Hempstead Village received a call at about 7 a.m. requesting aid for someone in front of 277 Lawson St.

Hempstead police said when their officers arrived, they found a man and a woman in the street, both of whom had been stabbed. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was taken to a hospital, where she is listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

Police said the circumstances of the stabbing were unclear, and the investigation by the Nassau County Homicide Squad is continuing.
