Police release video of theft from vehicle Thursday morning in Hicksville

The video footage shows the man on the bike stopping at the end of the driveway, walking up to the car, opening the door -- then stealing a GPS unit.

Now, Nassau County police have released the footage of the theft that occurred in Hicksville Thursday morning, asking if anyone can identify the suspect, as detectives investigate possible links to similar recent thefts in the area.

Police said the theft caught on a home surveillance system took place at 5:46 a.m. outside a home on Pewter Lane. The thief also stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the car, according to police.

The theft took about a minute. In the footage, the man can be seen dropping his bike on the sidewalk, walking up to the vehicle, opening the door, roaming around inside the car, then fleeing.

Police said it was obvious the suspect touched the door, but did not say whether fingerprint or other DNA evidence was recovered at the scene.
