A gas station attendant sustained minor injuries after a group of teens attacked him and robbed him as he worked Monday night at a Citgo station in Valley Stream, police said.

Nassau County police said the robbery occurred at the Citgo on West Merrick Road at about 8:10 p.m. They said the victim, whose identity was not released, suffered minor injuries. It was not immediately clear if he was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said the attendant was alone in the store.

Police said five of the suspects were male, one female.

The attendant told police he'd allowed two of the male teens into the store, then one demanded money -- and began going through his pockets.

A fight ensued during which the other teen opened the door to the store, allowing the other teens in to ransack the store and take what were described as "assorted items," police said. The teens fled on foot.

It was not immediately clear if the robbery was caught on video surveillance.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
