Three men rob taxi driver, passenger in Westbury, say police

Nassau police are looking for three men who robbed a taxi driver and his passenger in Westbury early Friday morning, threatening the victims with a knife and a gun.

Police said the TH Express Taxi driver, who already had a passenger in the front seat, was called to pick up a fare in front of a home on Livingston Street at about 2:10 a.m.

Two men got into the backseat and the cab drove a short distance before the men in the back told the driver to stop, police said.

The suspect sitting behind the front passenger put a knife to the 27-year-old man's throat and demanded his wallet and earrings, police said.

The suspect sitting behind the 19-year-old driver restrained him as a third suspect, armed with a handgun, walked up to the driver's door and demanded cash.

Police said the robbers fled with an undetermined amount of cash, earrings and a wallet, driving off in a sport-utility vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
