Police: Woman scares off home intruder

A home burglary was foiled Monday night in Baldwin when an 81-year-old woman, sleeping in a chair, woke up and yelled when she saw a man in the hallway, causing him to leave the house on the run, Nassau County police said.

The burglary occurred at 8 p.m., when a man, thin and wearing a baseball cap, entered an Everett Court residence through an unlocked side door, police said. The man took nothing from the home, and no injuries were reported, police said.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 800-244-TIPS.
