Police: Would-be robbers assault man on Malverne street

Two men struck a 56-year-year man in the face as he was walking in Malverne early Saturday morning and attempted to rob the victim but left empty-handed, Nassau County police said.

The victim was walking on Croyden Street at 12:13 a.m. when he was approached by two men who demanded cash. The suspects punched the victim in the face and he fell to the ground, police said.

The suspects then fled without any money in a car heading west on Lakeview Avenue. Police said there was no description of the vehicle.

The victim, who sustained cuts to his eyes and nose, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The first suspect is described as 6-foot with a medium build, short black hair, wearing black pants and red shirt. The second suspect is described as 6-foot with a thin build, a short black Afro, wearing black pants, a black shirt, a beige jacket and work boots.
