A power outage to tracks in Penn Station caused the cancellation of one westbound Long Island Rail Road train Friday morning and delayed eight others in both directions for up to 20 minutes, officials said.
The outage occurred at about 9:40 a.m. and was resolved just before 10 a.m., railroad spokesman Rich Mendelson said. It did not affect the terminal itself, but did affect tracks operated by the LIRR and Amtrak, he said.
It was not immediately clear how many Amtrak trains were affected. The cause of the outage also was not immediately clear.
The outage caused the cancellation of the 8:55 a.m. train from Huntington to Penn Station. It delayed four other westbound trains and four eastbound trains by up to 20 minutes.
Trains were soon back on or close to schedule by about 10:40 a.m., the LIRR said.
