Raid ends 13-hour standoff at Westbury motel

Ending a 13-hour standoff, Nassau police stormed into a Westbury motel room Saturday to arrest a man who had barricaded himself inside, authorities said.

Anthony Terrell, 52, of Schenectady, had threatened to shoot anyone who came into his room at the Pines Motel, 101 Taylor Ave., where he remained past the designated checkout time.

The police department's elite Bureau of Special Operations entered the room at about 2:05 a.m. and arrested Terrell.

No one was injured, and Terrell had no gun, just a seven-inch gravity knife, police said.

Terrell was to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead on charges of burglary, criminal possession of a weapon and theft of services.
