Queens man faces drug charges after Southern State stop

A Jamaica, Queens, man faces a felony drug charge after state troopers found him in possession of marijuana, pain pills and crack during a traffic stop Friday on the Southern State Parkway in Lakeview, State Police said.

Randy Damas, 33, is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a narcotic drug with intent to sell, a felony; criminal use of drug paraphernalia; criminal possession of marijuana; unlawful possession of marijuana; possession of fireworks; and traffic violations.

He is due back at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday after being remanded on bail of $15,000 cash, $30,000 bond.

Troopers pulled over Damas at about 10:45 a.m. Friday near Exit 18, Eagle Avenue, because the stop lights on his green Ford Explorer were not working, according to a news release.

During the stop, troopers detected a "strong odor" of marijuana, the release said.

A search of the Explorer "yielded over 30 grams of marijuana, over 100 oxycodone pills, 6 grams of crack cocaine, over 100 small plastic zip lock bags and various illegal fireworks," the release said.
