A Hicksville man was scheduled for arraignment Sunday after police said he broke into a local residence and then apologized to a woman inside and left.

Shane Lopez, 34, of 15 West Ave., is charged with burglary.

According to Nassau County police detectives, a 911 call was received at 11 p.m. Saturday for a burglary in progress at a West Avenue home.

Police said a 24-year-old female victim said that she heard glass breaking inside her bedroom and that when she entered she heard a man say, "I'm sorry," before leaving through a broken window.

Responding officers found blood on the window and followed a blood trail to a parking lot on Old Country Road. There they said they saw Lopez wearing all black with open bloody wounds to his head, arm and hands.

Nothing appeared to have been taken. Lopez was to be arraigned at First District Court, Hempstead.
