St. Albans woman charged in theft of Amex gift cards from Garden City post office

Nassau police have arrested a St. Albans woman and charged her with grand larceny and other counts in connection with the fraudulent purchase of $5,260 worth of American Express gift cards at the Garden City U.S. post office over several days in December, police said.

Jeneba Kabba, 19, was arrested Tuesday and was arraigned on charges of third-degree larceny, second-degree possession of a forged instrument and second-degree identity theft at First District Court in Hempstead, according to Crimes Against Property detectives. She was released to probation and returns to court Thursday, officials said.

Kabba's attorney could not be reached for comment.

Police said Kabba bought the cards "through fraudulent means" between Dec. 1 and Dec. 17, using five different credit cards that had been re-encoded with bogus banking information. Police said the banking institutions lost about $5,260.
