Surveillance video shows police rescuing a suicidal man from jumping off a second-floor deck

Nassau County police officials praised four quick-thinking officers for preventing an apparently suicidal man from jumping off a second-floor deck Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 at a Garden City shopping center. Acting Commissioner Patrick Ryder said the department's Third Precinct received a call at 10:21 a.m. about a distraught man threatening to jump from a 28-foot high platform at The Gallery at Westbury Plaza. In this surveillance video of the incident, Officers Edward Hoctor and Michael O'Brien can be seen keeping the man engaged from the ground level while Officers Michael Vergano and Steven Liguori responded to the second story. Police did not identify the man who was rescued. (Credit: NCPD)
