Suspect sought in attempted street robbery

A 20-year-old man walking in Baldwin early Wednesday morning was accosted by an assailant who knocked him to the ground, and punched and kicked him while demanding money and a cellphone, the Nassau County police said.

The victim was walking on Milburn Avenue near Sunrise Highway when he was approached from behind at 4:02 a.m., First Squad detectives said.

The male attacker "punched the victim in the right side of his face and continued to punch and kick the victim about the body as he fell to the ground," then ran off without getting any of the victim's possessions, police said.

The victim, whose name was withheld by the police, "continued to walk home and was transported by private auto to a hospital where police were called," police said Wednesday in a news release.

Police ask anyone with information about the robbery attempt to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
