Teens arrested in Locust Valley burglary

Two Glen Cove teens face charges in connection with a Locust Valley burglary and the theft of a car, Nassau County police said Thursday.

Second Squad detectives arrested Gregory Czaplicki and Taylor Steed, both 17, on Wednesday, after a burglary on Cross Street.

Police said Czaplicki, of 24 McGrady St., broke into a home on Cross Street at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, taking various electronic devices, coins and sneakers.

At 1 a.m. Wednesday, near the burglarized house, police found Steed, of 29 Chadwick St., asleep in a stolen car with proceeds from the burglary on Cross Street. Steed said he was waiting for a friend and named Czaplicki, police said.

Later, after he was arrested on charges of criminal possession of stolen property, Steed told police Czaplicki had burglarized the home on Cross Street, police said.

Czaplicki was arrested on charges of burglary and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Steed was arraigned Tuesday and released conditionally to probation. He is due back in court on Monday.
