Tides from nor'easter cancel Town of North Hempstead Polar Plunge

Saturday’s Town of North Hempstead “Freezin’ for a Reason” polar plunge benefiting Special Olympics New York has been canceled as a result of lingering rough waters from Friday’s nor’easter.

The plunge was scheduled for noon, but with high tide coming in around that time, and debris and water entering the parking lot, organizers called it off.

The plunge will not be rescheduled, organizers said. The March 10 Town of Oyster Bay Polar Plunge, which will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Tobay Beach, will also benefit Special Olympics New York.
