In response to the tragedy that occurred July 4, 2012, in which a boat capsized and three local children drowned, Town of Oyster Bay emergency responders from multiple departments received training at the Sewanhaka Yacht Club in Oyster Bay on a rescue device called a rapid diver, which allows the user to execute an underwater rescue in less than 15 seconds.
