Nassau County detectives are looking for the driver of a vehicle who hit and seriously injured a pedestrian in Uniondale Sunday and then drove away.

Police said the hit-and-run accident happened at about 7:30 p.m., as a man, 40, tried to cross Jerusalem Avenue from the north, near the 500 block.

He was hit by a vehicle traveling west, police said, and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was admitted in serious condition with head injures.

The vehicle had front-end damage, and after hitting the victim it continued west, turning north onto Bedford Avenue, police said.

Anyone with information on the accident can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will remain confidential.
