Uniondale woman delivers baby in ambulance, on way to hospital

A Nassau County police medical technician delivered a baby boy late Tuesday in an ambulance on its way to the hospital, police said.

First Precinct officers and a police department ambulance responded to a Cooper Street residence in Uniondale and found a woman, 25, in labor, according to a news release.

She was immediately placed in the ambulance, and on the way to a hospital the ambulance medical technician, assisted by an ambulance medical technician supervisor, delivered "a healthy baby boy" at 9:58 p.m., the release said.

The mother and baby were admitted to the hospital and "reported to be doing fine," police said in the release.
