A Valley Stream man was arrested Wednesday after police accused him of traveling to an upstate village and confronting a man he suspected of dating his ex-girlfriend, then luring the victim into his car and keeping him captive at gunpoint, State Police said.
Davendra V. Persaud, 26, faces charges of second-degree kidnapping and first-degree criminal use of a firearm.
Persaud made the four-hour drive on Oct. 9 to Unadilla, a village in Otsego County, "to meet with a 22-year-old male resident he believed was having a relationship with his former girlfriend," a State Police report said.
State Police investigators from Valley Stream and upstate Sidney learned that "under the guise of establishing a business partnership, Persaud enticed the 22-year-old victim into his vehicle, brandished a firearm and refused to allow the victim to exit the vehicle until he agreed to cease his relationship" with the woman, police said.
Persaud released the victim after he agreed to his demands, police said. He was arraigned by Town Justice Albert Clune in the Town of Unadilla Court and remanded to Otsego County jail in lieu of $15,000 cash or $30,000 property bond.
