Hempstead Town will open 15 warming centers on Thursday and Friday as temperatures hit the teens. And Nassau County will open centers as well.
These senior centers will be open for residents looking to stay out of the cold from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.:
-Baldwin Senior Center, 1810 North Grand Ave. in Baldwin
-Bellmore Senior Center, 2000 Bellmore Ave. in Bellmore
-East Meadow Senior Center, 1485 Front St. in East Meadow
-Elmont Senior Center, 138 Elmont Rd. in Elmont
-Franklin Square Senior Center, 1182 Martha Place in Franklin Square
-Green Acres Senior Center, 400 Flower Rd. in Valley Stream
-Levittown Senior Center, 555 Newbridge Rd. in Levittown
-Merrick Senior Center, 2550 Clubhouse Rd. in Merrick
-Rosa Parks Senior Center, 2 Babylon Tpke. in Roosevelt
-Salisbury Senior Center, 460 Salisbury Park Dr. in Westbury
-Uniondale/Hempstead Senior Center, 840 Uniondale Ave. in Uniondale
-Uniondale/Merrick Senior Center, 750 Jerusalem Ave. in Uniondale
-Wantagh Senior Center, 1150 Seamans Neck Rd. in Wantagh
The Cedarhurst Senior Center, at 200 Cedarhurst Ave. in Cedarhurst, is only open until 4:30 p.m. The Hempstead Senior Center, at 260 Clinton St. in Hempstead, is only open Friday.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of the arctic blast, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said warming centers would be open to residents on Thursday and Friday.
Those centers are the Cantiague Park Ice Rink in Hicksville; Grant Park in Hewlett; Mitchel Field Administration Center in Uniondale; Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center at Bethpage; Syosset-Woodbury Community Park Ice Rink in Syosset; Marjorie Post Community Park in Massapequa; the Salvation Army in Freeport; the Salvation Army in Hempstead; and the Sandel Senior Center in Rockville Centre.
