A Westbury man was arrested early Thursday after attempting a burglary at one Hicksville home and then stealing a bicycle from another, Nassau County police said.
Cesar Pimentel-Garcia, 18, of 483 Winthrop St., entered the unlocked basement of a Jerusalem Avenue home at 1 a.m. and tried to steal a flat-screen television, Second Squad detectives said.
The homeowner was alerted by her barking dog, and then saw Pimentel-Garcia running out of her backyard, according to police.
Police were called after Pimentel-Garcia "was seen removing a bicycle from the basement" of a 10th Street home a short time later and fled westbound on 10th, police said.
Around 1:55 a.m., Second Precinct officers stopped Pimentel-Garcia as he walked west on 10th Street with a backpack containing bolt cutters and latex gloves, and made the arrest without incident.
Pimentel-Garcia was charged with second-degree burglary, attempted second-degree burglary and possession of burglar's tools, police said. He was to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
