Two Nassau County men were arrested at a Target in Levittown on charges of stealing $3,500 worth of teeth-whitening strips from the store.

William Byrd, 43, of 147 Walton Ave., Uniondale, and Jamel McDonal, 30, of 131 Allers Blvd., Roosevelt, were arrested Monday by Second Precinct officers at 8:25 p.m. -- after, police said, they were identified by store security as suspects in prior store thefts.

Police said those thefts from the store on Hempstead Turnpike occurred on Jan. 22, and Feb. 10, 18 and 24.

Police said that on those dates the pair "entered Target and removed Crest Whitening Strips valued over $3,500."

McDonal and Byrd were each charged with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and petty larceny. Additionally, McDonal was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny in a theft from a Target store in Westbury.

Byrd and McDonal both pleaded not guilty at their arraignments Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead. Byrd was being held in lieu of $30,000 bond or $15,000 cash bail last night. McDonal was being held on $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash bail.
