Woman, 90, struck and killed by friend, 89, helping her move car in Oceanside driveway, police say

A 90-year-old woman who was helping a friend move her car was accidentally struck and killed by the 89-year-old friend in Oceanside on Wednesday afternoon, Nassau police said.

Police said June Guerin, 90, of Oceanside died helping her friend, who was moving her 1999 Ford sedan to the top of the driveway of her Windsor Parkway home about 2:35 p.m. But once behind the wheel, the friend mistakenly put the car in reverse and hit Guerin, who had been standing behind the car, police said.

Guerin was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver also was taken to a hospital for evaluation, police said.

The Ford passed brake and safety tests conducted at the scene, police said, and the woman's death has been ruled accidental.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the victim and the driver. It also misspelled the name of the woman who died.
