Woman attacked and robbed in Freeport, police say

Police are searching for a woman -- and possibly other suspects -- who attacked and robbed another woman early Monday on a street in Freeport.

The victim, identified only as a 27-year-old, suffered minor injuries, but refused medical attention at the scene.

The attack occurred near the intersection of Woodcleft Avenue and Manhattan Street at 12:09 a.m., Nassau County police said. Police said the victim was sitting on the corner, when a group of people, male and female, walked past. There was an argument, police said, and the suspect began to "punch the victim in the head."

During the altercation, police said, the victim's purse was taken before the group fled.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
