Woman charged in two Island Park hit-runs

An Oceanside woman has been arrested in a road-rage spree that began with her fleeing the scene of a head-on crash in Island Park, continued when she rammed the same car again at another location, and ended after she crashed into a second car and abandoned her own car, police said.

Donna Pugliese, 48, of 100 Daly Blvd., was charged with assault, criminal mischief, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

The incident began on Christmas night as she was going east on Warwick Road in her 2003 Mercedes-Benz. She struck a 2009 Nissan Maxima head-on, then pulled away, police said.

The Nissan driver followed Pugilese, and while on the phone with 911, was rammed by Pugilese in the passenger side and the rear of the car before Pugliese fled again, police said.

Shortly thereafter, there was another 911 call for an accident at Austin Boulevard and Florida Avenue involving a Jeep and Pugilese, who fled that accident and abandoned her car with her keys in the ignition a short distance away.

An 8-year-old trapped in the Jeep was cut from the car by the fire department. The driver and child were treated at a hospital and released, police said.

No phone number could be located for Pugliese, who was arrested Saturday afternoon at her house.

She was transported to a hospital, where she received medical treatment for a cut on her lip and a sprained wrist.

She was to be arraigned later Saturday.
