New York Equestrian Center in West Hempstead

A $1 million revamping of the only privately-owned horse ranch in Hempstead Town is transforming a rundown relic into a state-of-the-art, year-round, indoor riding arena. Lakewood Stables, now the New York Equestrian Center, one of West Hempstead's oldest landmarks, faced foreclosure in 2011. Now it houses a 30,000-square-foot enclosed riding arena, 53 new stalls, a 7,000-square-foot mezzanine with 99 seats, and 40 on-site parking spots.
