Anyone interested in a career as a New York State trooper has only one week remaining to take the entrance test, officials said Thursday.

Applications must be submitted by Sept. 1 and the test will be administered on four dates in October at several locations around the state, Police Superintendent George P. Beach II said.

A hiring list for the next four years will be established based on the test results, and Beach said, “We do not anticipate conducting another exam in the near future.”

Troopers have a salary of $53,993 while in the training academy, $71,712 after graduation and $90,827 after five years, Beach said.

Troopers assigned to barracks on Long Island and downstate get an additional location compensation, he said.

“I strongly encourage those who are interested and meet the qualifications to apply to become a member of the New York State Police,” Beach said.

“A career as a Trooper is both challenging and rewarding, providing a unique opportunity to positively impact communities across the state,” he said.
