Newsday launches new iPad, iPhone apps

I am excited to announce the launch of new iPad and iPhone applications that will deliver Newsday's valuable news coverage, along with live streaming of Cablevision's News 12 Networks and MSG Varsity. By bringing together these three award-winning outlets, the Newsday iPad and iPhone applications provide users with a one-stop source for all the local news and information they want and need while on the go. The iPad and iPhone applications are now available for download from the iTunes App Store.

I am also proud to announce the release of our first Android application, offering Newsday's comprehensive coverage anytime, anywhere. This new application is now available on the Android Market.

Whether you're looking for breaking news alerts or the latest in Long Island news, sports, entertainment, lifestyle and business, the Newsday iPad, iPhone and Android apps are there for you. The apps offer frequent hyperlocal weather and traffic updates, plus instant access to hundreds of traffic cameras. And you can follow your favorite teams by checking the latest scores and schedules for professional and high school sports. The applications are fully searchable with simple navigation features and customization options, and offer an interactive multimedia experience through video and photo galleries.

And with the inclusion of live streaming of News 12 Networks and MSG Varsity on the iPad and iPhone apps, users will get the full experience of what's happening in their community and across the tristate area.

The iPad, iPhone and Android apps are a valuable benefit, provided at no additional charge to Newsday seven-day home delivery and Optimum Online customers. Others can subscribe to Newsday's digital subscription package, which includes full access to Newsday's iPad, iPhone and Android applications, as well as and The digital subscription package is $4.99 per month, and subscribers will receive a one-month free trial, courtesy of BMW.
