Newsday received 20 nominations Tuesday in the 59th annual New York Emmy Awards competition, the most of any newspaper in the region.
Staff members were nominated for video/multimedia packages in the categories of: Business/Consumer; Education/Schools; Environment; Health Science; Human Interest; Religion; Sports; Weather; Lifestyle; Magazine Program; Sound Editing; Sports Editing; Program Editing; and Photography.
“The Emmy nominations are a great honor,” said Debby Krenek, Newsday editorial director and senior vice president/digital media. “They are recognition of the distinguished work of our video team, and I am extraordinarily proud of their accomplishments.”
News 12 Long Island received 27 nominations. News 12 Networks, including Westchester and Connecticut, received a total of 91 nominations.
The New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominations of work submitted by dozens of news organizations at the studios of CUNY-TV.
Winners will be announced at a black tie gala March 19 at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Manhattan’s Times Square. Last year, Newsday won a record five Emmys.
