Newsday received a record 25 nominations Thursday in the 60th annual New York Emmy Awards competition, the most for any newspaper in the region.

Staff members were nominated for video/multimedia packages in the categories of: Investigative Report; Feature News; Education/Schools; Crime; Historical/Cultural; Human Interest; Religion; Societal Concerns; Sports; Interview/Discussion; Interactivity; Audio; Program Editing; Sports Editing; and Photography.

“These nominations are a testament to the creativity and dedication of our video team,” said Debby Krenek, co-publisher of Newsday. “We are enormously honored to receive this recognition.”

News 12 Long Island received 21 nominations. News 12 Networks, including New Jersey, Westchester and Connecticut, received a total of 64 nominations.

Last year, Newsday received 20 nominations and won 7 Emmys.

The New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominations of work submitted by dozens of news organizations at the studios of CUNY-TV.

Winners will be announced at a black-tie gala May 6 at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Manhattan’s Times Square.
