'Adopt a Cop' program helps Newtown officers

The group is helping officers who are on leave due to trauma from responding to the shooting.

NEWTOWN - A woman from Shelton has organized a way for people to give back to the officers who responded to the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School last month.

Linda Antignani presented the officer liaison yesterday with grocery gift cards as part of the Adopt a Cop program. Thirteen officers are currently on leave because of what they experienced while responding to the shooting and running out of time off from work.

"Everyone knows that they're putting food right on these officers' tables, which is about as direct help as you can give," says Antignani.
