Psychologist: Be open with kids about CT shooting

Cheryl Hurst advises parents to be honest, but limit media coverage.

THE BRONX - In the wake of the Connecticut shooting that targeted elementary school-aged children, a New York City psychologist is advising parents on how to talk with their own children about it.

Cheryl Hurst says parents should shield their children from graphic details in media coverage, but advises parents to be honest and open.

"Try to elicit conversation with them, so that they know they can come to you when they're feeling sad, upset or feeling afraid," said Hurst.
