To help commemorate the anniversary, the families of several victims gathered in Newtown to discuss a new nonprofit group aimed at promoting gun control. Parents say the organization, called Sandy Hook Promise, will use its resources to prevent future school shootings.

Organizers say that aside from gun control, the group is focused on mental health and school security. However, they say it is too early to make any recommendations to lawmakers.
