A Queens woman who worked at a Macy’s department store in Valley Stream was arrested Thursday after stealing more than $30,000 in goods and cash from the store by repeatedly sneaking in when it was closed, police said.
Jasmine Hylton, 29, and an accomplice, Kevin Peterkin, 26, both of 180th Street, Queens, face multiple burglary charges after four separate burglaries during a 12-day period ending May 1, Nassau County police said.
At arraignment Friday at First District Court in Hempstead, Hylton was ordered held on $2,000 bond, $1,000 cash bail while Peterkin was ordered held on $2,500 bond, $1,500 cash bail, according to online court records. They are due back in court Tuesday.
Authorities said the pair entered the Green Acres Mall store on April 20, 25, 26 and May 1 and stole approximately $17,000 in clothing, $8,000 in electronics and housewares, and $6,600 in cash from various cash registers.
Police said Hylton used her employee key and an uninvolved supervisor’s pass code to disarm the alarm and enter the closed stores. She was arrested Thursday at her job.
Peterkin was apprehended Friday afternoon in front of their home.
Authorities said they recovered about $10,000 worth of merchandise and $1,430 in cash from the residence.
