A 21-year-old woman was critically injured when the car she was riding in was struck by another vehicle Monday evening as it made a turn on Sunrise Highway in Merrick, Nassau County police said.
Police said the woman, whose identity was not released, was ejected from the vehicle.
The two drivers, a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, as well as a 19-year-old female passenger in the other car, had minor injuries, police said.
The crash occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on Sunrise Highway at Hewlett Avenue.
Police said the critically injured woman was a rear-seat passenger in a 2004 Honda being driven eastbound on Sunrise by the 20-year-old man. As the driver attempted to turn north onto Hewlett Avenue, the Honda was struck by the westbound 2006 Hyundai driven by the 23-year-old woman. The victim, in the Honda, was ejected through the rear passenger door window, police said.
Police said she remains hospitalized in critical condition on Tuesday with undisclosed injuries.
Police said the investigation is continuing but that no criminality was immediately suspected.
