A Lindenhurst woman was drunk when she drove north in the southbound lanes of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway early Thursday, Nassau County police said.
Police responding to emergency calls at 3:59 a.m. about a blue Volkswagen Jetta going the wrong way on Route 135 found the car in the right lane, near Exit 5, in North Massapequa.
Police arrested the driver, Claudine Castro, 44, of 657 N. Jefferson Ave., who was behind the wheel.
There were no injuries, police said.
Castro is charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol greater than 0.08 percent, the threshold for drunken driving, and driving the wrong way. She also is charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Castro was ordered held on $10,000 bail or bond at her arraignment Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead. She is due back in court Monday.
