New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney will challengeSen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the state's Democratic primary, a seniorcampaign adviser says.
The 9-term congresswoman believes New Yorkers need a "strong,experienced and independent leader." That's according to astatement from Paul Blank, director of Trippi & Associates, whichhas been hired by Maloney to serve as a chief strategist.
Blank says Maloney is putting together a campaign team and willmake her announcement in two weeks.
Gillibrand was appointed by New York Gov. David Paterson to fillthe vacancy created by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's appointment assecretary of state.
