Angela Ramos screens with WFP for Monica Martinez seat

Assemb. Phil Ramos’ wife, Angela, has screened with the Working Families Party to run for the 9th District county legislature seat of Democrat Monica Martinez.

Ramos (D-Brentwood) declined to comment about his wife’s interest in the race or whether she would run a primary against Martinez, whom county Democrats designated as their candidate at their convention on Tuesday.

After the Working Families Party screening, Richard Schaffer, Suffolk Democratic chairman, said initially that neither Ramos nor his wife had contacted him about a possible run for county legislature.

Several days later, Schaffer said Ramos called to ask for a meeting to discuss “some important issues,” but wasn’t more specific.

Martinez said she knew of Ramos’ screening, but was surprised by the move because Phil Ramos had endorsed her in the past.
