Former Nassau County Legis. Brian Muellers, who now lives in Huntington Station, has dropped out of the race for Huntington Town supervisor.

In a letter to the Democratic town committee, Muellers said he believes residents would have benefited from “my experience, ideas and leadership.” He said the GOP’s selection of Assemb. Chad Lupinacci as their supervisor candidate, “requires a united front to ensure the town remains in Democratic hands.”

Muellers, who made his decision after losing a convention floor fight for the nomination, said a primary would be “prohibitively expensive, likely divisive and against the better interests” of the party and town.

“It is time to rally and turn that energy into votes that send a clear message at the local level this year,” Muellers said.
