Foes of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's latest LIPA plan expressed anger over an attempt to shut down a public hearing in Suffolk earlier this month before allowing testimony from Irving Like, a respected former Long Island Power Authority board member and longtime public-power advocate.
Like, a pioneer in the fight against the Shoreham nuclear power plant, submitted his questions about the plan beforehand, emailed Cuomo's office requesting a turn and sat in the front row waiting.
When Cuomo aides tried to adjourn without calling on Like, activists in the audience rose to complain and Like -- appointed to LIPA by Gov. Mario Cuomo -- got his chance at the rostrum.-- Rick Brand
